A paternity action is brought when the parents of a child are not married in order to establish paternity, custody parenting plan, and child support. Paternity actions can involve an agreement between the parties as to who is the child's biological father, or they can involve blood testing. Sometimes a birth certificate can be amended to name a father once that has been established. At the end of a paternity action a declaration of parentage will be entered by the court once all the facts have been established. A custody parenting plan that is fair and is in the child's best interest will be entered by the court.
Custody Parenting Plan
Additionally, a court will enter a final parenting plan which contains a declaration of custody. The father of a child has a right to visitation and to be a parent to the child just like any other parent. MI Seattle child custody parenting plan lawyers have represented hundreds of clients in paternity actions, both mothers and fathers, and are thoroughly familiar with the law and the process. Our attorneys also know paternity suits can be some of the more emotionally challenging cases, as parents have the responsibility of a child, but are in an uncertain relationship. Having represented hundreds of clients, we understand how to guide our clients through this process and to seek the best interest of the child. While a custody parenting plan may name the mother as the custodial parent, MI attorneys fight to protect the father's rights under the plan.
Child Support and Custody Parenting Plan
In addition to the custody parenting plan, a child support obligation for the non-custodial parent will also be determined during a paternity suit. Washington State child support law applies to unmarried parents as it does to divorcing or separating parents. Because we have superior experience in all areas of Washington State family law, our attorneys are highly effective at establishing incomes in order to set child support even in tough cases like unemployment, underemployment, or simply evasive disclosure. Furthermore, we are thoroughly familiar with paternity suits brought by State agencies or prosecutor's offices, and have proven strategies and negotiation techniques for such actions.
